		<description>Hi.  I discuss the Pythagorean Theorem in terms of statements and converses.  The Pythagorean Theorem is an if and only if theorem - both the statement and its converse are true.  It is not hard to come up with a pair of statements where one is true but the converse is not.  Female students seem to quickly understand that &quot;If Mary is wearing lipstick at work at 5pm, then she must have a date&quot; can be true, while the converse does not have to be true.
